KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR liaison secretary, Mursalim Tanjul, who is also the party's divisional head for Kudat, has announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect.
He cited “unscrupulous” politicking within PKR as the main reason for his resignation.
Mursalim successfully retained his post as Kudat divisional head in last month's party elections.
In a text to FMT, Mursalim confided that he was tired with all the unhealthy politicking going on in PKR.
"I am tired with this endless politicking. Now I wish to focus on business" he said.
It is not known how this will affect PKR, but Mursalim, a pious Muslim, is considered easy-going and open to all factions in Sabah.
Mursalim hit the headlines in local newspapers recently after being assaulted at Sandakan airport by supporters of PKR Batu Sapi divisional head Hassnar Ebrahim.
Hassnar, who is aligned to Tuaran PKR chief Ansari Abdullah, was believed to be unhappy with Mursalim for supporting PKR state liaison chief, Ahmad Thamrin Jaini, who is from Sandakan, as the party's candidate in the Batu Sapi by-election.
Barisan Nasional eventually retained the seat following a three-cornered tussle with PKR and Sabah Progressive Party.
In his messages to his friends today, the soft-spoken Mursalim, text in Malay as follows:
"Salam tuan/puan.
(Greetings ladies/gentlemen. I have announced my resignation from the party in a discussion with the chief, secretary and youth chief and 10 AJK. Please refer matters to secretary or deputy division. Thanks a million for your support and assistance. Whatever happens we're still friends and family. Thank you)
