Asfia create Sarawak’s DUN history

KUCHING, Nov 12 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar has been reappointed Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Speaker for another term.
Mohamad Asfia, 63, a lawyer by profession who created history as the longest-serving speaker in the state following his reappointment for the fourth term in November 2008, will serve for the fifth term until November 2012.
He was elected Semop assemblyman in 1991 and was appointed deputy speaker on Jan 28, 1995 and as the speaker on Nov 15, 2000.
He was sworn in today before Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng in a ceremony at the new state assembly building in Petra Jaya, here. — BERNAMA
