In his winding up speech, Minister of Land Development Datuk Sri James Masing quoted the DAP member for Batu Lintang who said, “Voters talked about politicians as greedy people who are selfish and greedy for power”.
Masing explained: “In my understanding, greedy for power as said by the ADUN member of Batu Lintang must include the number of positions a single person holds or a single family controls”, adding that position carries with it authority.
Without hesitation, he proceeded to point out the number of politicians among family members in the opposition camps that hold more than one political position.
“DAP’s Lim Kit Siang is an MP for Ipoh Timur, Perak. His Son Lim Guan Eng is the Secretary General of DAP as well as an MP for Bagan, Perak. Lim Guan Eng is also ADUN for Air Puteh and the Chief Minister of Penang. Lim Guan Eng’s wife is ADUN of Kota Laksamana in Bukit Gelugor, Penang”, said Masing.
“Karpal Singh is the National Chairman of DAP and an MP for Bukit Gelugor, Penang. His eldest son, Jagdeep Singh is ADUN for Batu Kerana, Penang and his second son Gobind Singh is the MP for Puchong, Selangor”, he said.
Masing proceeded to the PKR camp: “Anwar Ibrahim is the Advisor of PKR who, according to Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, is the ‘defacto’ President of PKR. His wife Dr Wan Azizah is the President of PKR and his daughter, Nurul Izzah is an MP for Lembah Pantai, Selangor and is now contesting for one of the vice-presidents in PKR”.
“Azmin Ali is a close confidant and personal friend of Anwar Ibrahim and is contesting for the post of Deputy President in PKR.
He has the full backing of Anwar Ibrahim”, “At home in Sibu, Wong Ho Leng is the MP for Sibu and ADUN for Bukit Assek. In Kuching, Chong Chieng Jen is an MP for Kuching and at the same time ADUN for Kota Sentosa. Between these two gentlemen, they are holding four positions”, said Masing.
He added: “The numerous positions that Anwar’s family, Lim family, Karpal Singh family, and Wong and the Chong hold must carry with it authority and power, before this accumulation of position evolves into the ‘Frankenstein of Nepotism and Cronyism’.
“I concur with the YB of Batu Lintang that we must, in his own words, ‘cure this political illness.’ Before pointing out a tiny speck in other people’s eyes, let us pull out the beam from our own eyes first”, he concluded.
