fullban-home

UPDATED PETALING JAYA: Kota Raja PKR division chief candidate Kottapan Suppiah was allegedly attacked by Dr Xavier Jeyakumar and a group of his supporters at Bukit Naga yesterday.

Kottapan, who was convinced that the Kota Raja election was not being conducted in a fair manner, wanted the polling, which took place at the MBSA Bukit Naga hall, cancelled.

He informed the PKR headquarters about it and was told the election had been nullified. Kottapan then walked into the hall and tried to stop the ballot papers that were collected from being sorted out. He was also accompanied by fellow division chief candidate, M Telai Ambalan.

It was then that Jeyakumar allegedly hit Kottapan from behind.

"I turned around and I saw Jeyakumar coming at me," Kottapan told FMT from his hospital bed in Sri Kota Medical Centre.

He added that when Jeyakumar's supporters saw him hitting Kottapan, they too joined in and started beating up the latter.

Jeyakumar, who is also currently Kota Raja PKR division chief, is also a Selangor state exco member.

Pembangunan SCORE akan mengatasi kekurangan populasi Wilayah Tengah

fullban-home

PKR polls: Is it all about nepotism and dynastic politics?

Friday, 24 September 2010 18:59
anwar-wan-azizah-nurul-izzah-pkrKUALA LUMPUR  –  For the first time, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) elections, scheduled in November, is attracting a lot of attention including from within and outside, with issues ranging from nepotism, personal attacks to dynastic politics.

And Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar's decision to contest the vice-president's post in the upcoming elections have given rise to differing views about nepotism and democracy in the party.
Some political analysts pointed to the fact that Anwar Ibrahim was the de facto leader of the PKR, Anwar's wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the president, and now the daughter was vying for one of the vice president's posts.

BEYOND HIROSHIMA - THE NON-REPORTING OF FALLUJAH'S CANCER CATASTROPHE

August 9, 2010

www.medialens.org

Compassion is sometimes a central theme of media reporting. On August 25, journalists across the UK described how a British woman, Mary Bale, had been filmed dropping a cat into a wheelie bin. The cat was later released unharmed. The Guardian reported and commented on the story on August 24 and 25. Matt Seaton wrote:
“OK, there are lots of acts of random cruelty involving humans on humans every day, but this was somebody's pet, for Pete's sake. Who would do such a thing?” (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/aug/24/coventry-cat-wheelie-bin)
On August 26, the Guardian followed up with a report describing how animal protection charities were considering whether to prosecute Bale. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/26/rspca-woman-cat-wheelie-bin)

On August 27, Alexander Chancellor devoted a section of his Guardian column to the story. On August 28, Michele Hansen also wrote an article focusing on the cat and on cruelty to animals more generally. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/aug/28/cat-litter-pets-protected-and-persecuted)

On August 29, almost a week after the Guardian had first reported the incident, Euan Ferguson commented:
“The same Facebook, the same Britain, that ‘named and shamed’ Mary Bale is the one that had over 30,000 followers for Raoul Moat RIP, who was a killer. Do we love animals more than people?” (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/29/mary-bale-cat-fluffy-animal)
Good question. According to our LexisNexis search (September 7), two articles appeared on the cat story in the Independent and two in the Independent on Sunday. The Daily Telegraph mentioned it in three articles; the Times in seven. The Observer had one article, the Mirror and Sunday Mirror had a total of ten articles. More than 170 articles have so far mentioned Mary Bale in the UK press.

Fallujah - Genetic Stress Beginning 2004

One month earlier, the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, a leading medical journal, published a study, ‘Cancer, Infant Mortality and Birth Sex-Ratio in Fallujah, Iraq 2005–2009,’ by Chris Busby, Malak Hamdan and Entesar Ariabi. As Noam Chomsky has commented, the study’s findings are “vastly more significant” than the Wikileaks Afghan ‘War Diary’ leaks (http://www.zcommunications.org/wikileaks-and-coverage-in-press-by-noam-chomsky). After all, the cancer crisis reported in the study is impacting thousands of people in one of Iraq's largest cities and is so severe that local doctors are advising women not to have children.

Exclusive! Hangar Hornbill, Kuching

America and the Democratic Republic of Congo

by Christopher Black
Global Research, September 14, 2010
Monthly Review - 2010-09-13
On August 26, the French newspaper Le Monde revealed the existence of a draft UN report on the most serious violations of human rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo over an eleven-year period (1993-2003).1  The massive draft report states that after the Rwandan Patriotic Front's takeover of Rwanda in 1994, it proceeded to carry out "systematic and widespread attacks" against Hutu refugees who had fled Rwanda to neighboring Zaire (now the DRC) as well as against the Hutu civilian population of the DRC in general.  Crucially, it concludes that the pattern of these attacks "reveal[s] a number of damning elements that, if they were proven before a competent court, could be classified as crimes of genocide."2

Adenan calls for more books on Sarawak

E-mail Print PDF
KUCHING: Special Advisor in the Chief Minister’s Office Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Satem yesterday urged budding authors in the state to write books on the major towns of Sarawak, including Sibu, Kapit, Kanowit and Mukah, as these towns have a rich history behind them.

“So I think some others will follow in the footsteps of James Ritchie, and I assure you that Yayasan Sarawak will also try to sponsor part of the publication costs of the books that are written, “ he said at the official launching of “Crown Jewel of the North”, a book about Limbang written by veteran journalist James Ritchie, at the Sarawak Club, Jalan Budaya here.

Adenan disclosed that when he became the chairman of Yayasan Sarawak, he had made it a policy to sponsor publications of books by local writers provided the book was related to Sarawak’s history and culture.

According to him, Yayasan Sarawak had already sponsored several books and paid for part of their publication costs.

“We also buy copies of these books to distribute to schools to create a historical consciousness among our young people,” he pointed out.

1. Mr Lee Kwan Yew, the Minister Mentor of Singapore is three years my senior. That means he and I practically grew up in the same period of time. That also means that I have been able to watch the progress of Mr Lee, and in fact to interact with him on various occasions.

2. His assertion in his interview with the New York Times that "Race relations (would be) better if Singapore (had) not (been) "turfed out" (of Malaysia) is worth studying. Is it true or is it fantasy?

3. Before Singapore joined the Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak to form Malaysia, there was less racial politics in the Federation of Malaysia. In 1955 the Malays who made up 80 per cent of the citizens gave a large number of their constituencies to the few Chinese and Indian citizens and ensured they won with strong Malay support. As a result the Alliance won 51 of the 52 seats contested.

Poverty in Singapore

Print E-mail

THERE IS THIS MYTH that Singapore is a rich country and its citizens are well-taken care of. Nothing could be further from the truth. The 1998 United Nations Human Development Index showed that Singapore ranked 28 on the list behind countries like Barbados and Malta.

In fact many households earn so little that they cannot afford to give their children pocket-money for school, resulting in the students going hungry for the day. The following is a snapshot of some of the more recent cases uncovered:

An elderly woman in her seventies was fatally run over by a hit-and-run driver as she was returning home at 6:40 am, working as a night-shift toilet cleaner. Not only did the elderly lady have to toil in the night shift, her pay was so meagre that she could not even afford to eat lunch. To top it off she had to save to help take care of her 50-year old mentally retarded daughter.
