SIBU: The Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will get an allocation of RM52.324 million next year.

Second Finance Minister and Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said the money was for the council to continue implementing development projects under its
jurisdiction.
Speaking at SMC’s annual dinner on Wednesday, Wong said he just signed the general warrant for the fund on Tuesday.
“I hope there will be more (funds) to come under the federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government,” he said, adding his ministry was in charge of 23 local councils in the state.
He said the quality of council services would reflect on the image of the government.
“It is a manifestation of your ability, capacity and capability,” he said.
Wong also reminded all councils to be prepared to deal with problems expected to result from rapid urbanisation, such as physical, social and environmental problems.
“It is not easy but all of us have to work hard and play our role.”
Wong later presented Service Excellence service Award certificates to 29 council staff.
