KUCHING: Senator Datuk Idris Buang has expressed support for Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud to retain his post as Chief Minister.
In an email to this newspaper yesterday, Idris said that he and many of his friends from the professional and corporate world believe that it is not yet time for Taib to leave his position as Chief Minister, president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) and chairman of the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN).
According to Idris, this is because the chief minister’s service and leadership is still needed by Sarawak, especially from the rural and semi urban areas where the indigenous people depend on his wise leadership.
Idris said that for 29 years, Taib has managed to bring major changes in all aspects of development for the welfare of the people.
Look all around us. Sarawak has developed so rapidly if compared to two or three decades ago.” Look at what is currently being implemented and planned, for example, Sarawak Corridor of Renewal Energy (SCORE). “Only a leader like Taib could have made his vision materialise for the present and future generations to enjoy and inherit the most advanced and richest state in Malaysia. SCORE, together with Taib’s other integrated plans will transform Sarawak into a fully developed state.
The business community, whether the Bumiputera or Chinese, know and realise that SCORE, inspired and being implemented by the Chief Minister is for Sarawak and the future of its people.
“We will continue to support Pehin Sri to keep on spearheading the struggle for Sarawak as Chief Minister, PBB president and Sarawak BN chairman and we sincerely urge him not to bow to any pressure from those who have been spreading slanders with intention of creating political instability in Sarawak.
“A leadership transition in the middle of the massive economic transformation of this state will only provide opportunity for the oppositions to create havoc”.
