KOTA SAMARAHAN: Appointed Community Leaders, Village Safety and Development Committee (JKKK) members and Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Muara Tuang constituency have been urged to fully discharge the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them.
Muara Tuang Assemblyman Dato' Seri Haji Mohd Ali Mahmood reminded them that their appointments were not "gifts".
"Do not think that your appointment as community leaders, JKKKs and NGOs are 'gifts' or 'titles'.You are actually carrying a big responsibility and you must uphold it with the highest trust and expectation by the people in your respective areas," he said.
Ali was speaking during the presentation ceremony of Outright Grant (OG) to 52 JKKKs and NGOs from the Samarahan area at the Civic Centre here yesterday.
He mentioned that there were complaints stating that some community leaders, JKKKs and NGOs implementing development projects in their areas did not carry them out in a transparent manner, thus giving rise to misunderstandings.
"We hope the allegations were false and deliberately exaggerated by certain quarters," he said.
Ali said all the development projects in each area should be audited accordingly to ensure that their implementation did not raise doubts among the public.
"Therefore, I want the community leaders, JKKKs and NGOs to provide their own audit statements to make it easier to review the detailed information related to a project," he said, adding that any problems or concerns that might arise could be referred to the Resident or District Office.
Meanwhile, he advised the JKKK committees to appoint educated quarters as their committee members so that matters relating to expenditure and audit could be done more professionally.
During the ceremony, the Assemblyman also presented bicycles to some of the orphans.
Among those present were Samarahan Deputy Resident Abdullah Upang and Sarawak Administrative Officer Zulkarnain Jim.
