Wan Junaidi hails Adenan's appointment

KUCHING: Santubong MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is confident that newly appointed Minister of Special Functions in the Chief Minister’s Office Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem will become the voice of Sarawak on issues pertaining to Native Customary Rights (NCR) land.
Applauding Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s decision to bestow the trust in Adenan to deal with land matters, Wan Junaidi said besides answering questions posed during the State Legislative Assembly sitting, he (Adenan) will be playing a bigger role explaining NCR land issues at the global front.
“The perception of NCR outside Malaysia is not precise. This should be rectified. Adenan who will lead the portfolio is the best person to do just that,” he said at Dewan Seri Santubong yesterday before visiting the upgrading project site in Kampung Santubong.
Wan Junaidi, who is also Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said within the state itself the poor understanding of and wrong perception towards NCR land issues were taken advantage of by certain parties who would then twist facts to gain political mileage.
“Adenan, equipped with a vast background in law should be able to clear the air on any misunderstandings regarding these land issues,” he said.
Wan Junaidi who decribed himself as a “kawasan-centric” (people’s man), said Adenan’s appointment in the cabinet could be the channel for his constituency to reach the state government.
“As a minister, Adenan is able to bring about and spur development around the Santubong area,” he said.
On another issue, he was tight-lipped on talks that Adenan was to become the successor of Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
