SRI AMAN: Despite losing 16 seats to the opposition in the last state election, the state BN is still considered a very strong government.
PRS Youth Chief Mong Dagang said this when asked to comment on the Peninsular-based People’s Progressive Party (PPP), which is aiming to contest a few parliamentary seats in the state in the coming general election.
“BN Sarawak still has a comfortable two-thirds majority in the State Legislative Assembly. This ia enough to prove that the state BN government is not a weak government (if PPP thinks so).
“Thus, I urge the PPP President, Datuk M.Kayveas not to confuse the people by allowing his party to contest in several seats in the state under Independent candidates. His action has not been sanctioned by the BN at federal level,” he said.
Earlier, Kayveas had announced that the Peninsular-based party might field several candidates, who will be standing as Independent candidates, in the coming 13th General election.
According to him, whether PPP will receive the “green light” from the state BN or not, he will go ahead with his plan to field the candidates, especially in areas where the opposition is considered strong.
Kayeas went further to say that PPP might even consider to field candidates in the next state election if there was enough support from party members.
